The Enigmatic Jaguar XJR

Date: 2013-11-08

XJR combines supercar performance with the highest levels of luxury and exemplifies Jaguar's expertise in engineering, design and craftsmanship: from its beautiful sweeping panoramic roof and muscular lines to the astonishing 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine, which is uprated, tuned and calibrated to produce a 280km per hour top speed. This is a luxury saloon car that accelerates from 0-100 km per hour in 4.6 seconds. XJR's 405kW power delivery and outstanding 680Nm torque deliver a thrilling driving experience. Its deep resounding sports exhaust quad pipes dramatically announce its arrival.

XJR's unique exterior styling includes bonnet louvres; aerodynamics are sharpened with a revised front bumper featuring a splitter, unique side sills, and a rear spoiler. XJR is complete with red brake calipers, 'R' badging and unique alloy wheels. Inside XJR is undeniably sporty yet remains luxurious. Its soft grain leather is offered in five bold colourways with surfaces finished in striking Piano Black and Carbon Fibre. XJR promises power and luxury.

Exceptional Handling from XJ's advanced and intelligent technology gives you driving confidence in almost all conditions. Dynamic Stability Control helps maintain control in challenging situations by reducing engine torque to the appropriate wheel and slowing the car. XJ also offers the driver the opportunity to select different modes to suit his or her driving preferences or the prevailing conditions. Dynamic Mode co-ordinates the vehicle's control systems and sharpens responses to input from the driver, delivering even more responsive acceleration for a thrilling, sporting driving experience. Winter Mode automatically dampens acceleration to help achieve a more gradual traction on ice and reduce skid risk.

Advanced safety systems help to actively protect everyone on board. XJ's sophisticated airbag technology helps give more complete and precise protection: there are two front airbags, airbags in the outer edges of the seats, plus side curtain airbags that drop down from above the windows to help take care of passengers in both the front and rear seats.

Adaptive Cruise Control enables XJ to sense if the vehicle in front slows down and accordingly reduces its own speed to maintain a safe distance. Once the road clears, XJ reverts to the pre-set speed. The Adaptive Cruise Control radar also operates Forward Alert, which gives the driver an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle moves into the same lane. Emergency Brake Assist measures the rate at which brake pressure increases, allowing for shorter stopping distances and improved steering control if an emergency braking situation is detected.

For added confidence while changing lanes on motorways, Blind Spot Monitor uses radar sensors to inform the driver of any vehicle hidden in the blind spot. While night-time driving can be more relaxed thanks to Adaptive Front Lighting, which reacts to speed and steering input to cast a deeper beam into corners. Intelligent high beam automatically selects the high or dipped beam as appropriate.

Safety is a priority when parking too. Sensors provide wide-angle, rear view colour images on the Touch-screen to make sure you and your XJ are always perfectly placed.
