What's The Issue

Julius had me laughing, almost standing and applauding his outrageous behaviour. The balls of it, chanting to our president that he pay "Pay back the money!" over and over until they asked him to leave. Talking of paying money, it is a question that is sure to be put to him as to where he got the money to pay his eighteen million Rand Tax bill. Never mind the money he would have had to make to generate such a bill.

JZ employed yet another tactic to deciding whether he should pay back the money by referring the decision to Police Minister, Nathi Nhleko. But hang on, is not the office of the public protector the place where the buck stops. Since when does the minister have the deciding vote on whether Number one pays back all monies spent on his private home that were not put towards security. In her report, our public protector said that the costs for the pool, the cattle kraal, the visitors centre and the amphitheatre all needed to be paid back to the state. So the state can then redirect those funds to something like clinics, vaccines for babies, and a whole lot of more free stuff for the very poor.

Anyway the Madam has managed to corner the spy tapes, or at least her bevvy of lawyers seem to have squeezed out all the wiggle room there was left to squeeze and now we all wait with baited breath for the next act in this saga to take centre stage.

While we busy ourselves with trivia of this nature the real danger continues seemingly unabated. Dangers like Monsanto slipping snippets of legislation past this or that Food and Drug Administrator. China seems to have seen the light as the rumour whisperers bring news to my ears that they are in the process of eradicating genetically modified farming from the country.

Speaking of the Chinese, I watched a speech by President Vladimir Putin speaking at an international convention on Peace. His frank and open approach to the subject was received with mixed feelings by the dignitaries form more than 40 countries.

As I listened to how much sense he made in what he said, I yearned for a leader like him. He spoke of how Russia has kept to various arms proliferation agreements while other countries have not. How Russia has played open cards with various organisations like NATO, the EU and the UN. All the while these organisations have used administrative manipulation to hide the real agendas behind issues like the anti missile system that the US wants to put on Russia's borders to protect who exactly? From which rockets? How Russia has abided by the arms treaty to halt production in missiles and missile technology while surrounding countries continue to invest and develop exactly these technologies. Where is the sense in that?

So why do I speak of the Russians when I brought up the Chinese? Brics, that is why. Brics is a force to be reckoned with, and not so much a force of military might that will come to your country and give you billions in aid if you promise not to educate your people, or spend tha aid money to drag them out of poverty and ignorance. The aid Brics is speaking of is aid aimed at levelling the palying field so that everyone can develop a better life for all and not just a better life for the few who are connected to the supply of money. I vote for Putin.
