What's The Issue?

While it is understandable that we are all shocked to the very core of our beings at the treacherous barbarity of the attacks on foreign nationals, once again there is a disparity in our response to this violence. It would seem that the barbaric attacks that constitute white genocide in South Africa, passes under our noses with hardly a mention in mainstream media. Much like the murder of one French cartoonist is met with an international outcry and the massacre of over a hundred people is met with seemingly indifference.

It may be that the world had exhausted its capacity to demonstrate its abhorrence of heinous acts like these and having had their say were happy to get on with their lives. Still the genocide perpetrated against white South African farmers continues unabated and it is as if we all look the other way in the hope that it will go away.

At least the Mozambican had somewhere to go, he could go home. The whites that are being slain in their homes have nowhere to run to.

So the xenophobia highlights our capacity as a nation for barbarity and with the media hungry for sensation, this barbarity is broadcast to the world. We have a long way to go to undo the damage this has caused to our international image, not to mention our national harmony.

The EU is dealing with a massive influx of immigrants and the recent spate of capsized boats and drownings has put pressure on the EU to deal with the problem. Funny how there is no pressure on the Libyan authorities to deal with the problem.

In other developments, now that the Madam has stepped aside, it will be fascinating to see how the DA deals with its succession issues as Mmusi Maimane makes his dash for Helen's position as party leader. Will there be pangas and bricks and bloodshed, or will there be a modus of decorum as the party deals with its newfound leadership issues? I for one think that it has been a long time coming and feel that Helen has finally come to her senses in stepping aside. Rumour has it that Jacob Zuma received the news very well. Personally I think he will have a much more effective opposition in Maimane, so maybe he shouldn't celebrate too soon.

In more important international developments the outcry over rumours of Russia taking over a military base in Finland and reports of Russia reinforcing its missile strength in the east of the country, have sent shivers through the international community. With Julian Assange revealing more revelations about how Israel is behind the creation of Hamas and the US helped create ISIS.

Boko Haram wants to overthrow the Nigerian government and some would tell you that their motivation is entwined with the oil production of the country and how the proceeds of the oil, which is mostly exported to the US, are shared. The wheels are coming off at an alarming rate.
