Shop and Win a Car

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

3 FINALISTS, 1 CAR, A LIVE DRAW 1 LUCKY WINNER!

KING SHAKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Durban, 26 April 2016 | Culminating in a live draw and peaking the curiosity and delight of local shoppers and travellers alike, three hopeful and very excited finalists, together with an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends and curious shoppers and travellers, gathered at King Shaka International Airport on Tuesday 26 April 2016 for the grand finale of just one of the airport's all-inclusive and fun campaigns, the Shop & Win a Car competition!

The competition, which would see a very lucky shopper drive away in a brand new KIA Rio valued at R247 000, took place at King Shaka International Airport from 16 January 2016 until 31 March 2016. By simply spending R200 or more, collectively, in one day at any of the various stores at King Shaka International Airport, anyone could enter by filling in a form and attaching their slip(s).

For the thousands of entries that were received, the three finalists, namely Silindile Jwara, Fred Weller and Elizabeth Ferreira, were contacted with the exciting news and were invited to attend the live draw where they each had a one-in-three chance of winning the KIA Rio! On the big day as the moment approached, in front of a cheering audience, each of the finalists were asked to select out of a bag a set of car keys. One by one, with plenty of eyes watching nervously, they would approach the car and put the key in the ignition whoever held the key that would start the engine was the new owner of a brand new KIA Rio!

Silindile, who is from Umlazi, was first in line to sit in the Rio's black leather seating to see if she was the winner. With a collective sigh of disappointment from the gathered crowds, the car's engine remained silent. Now with a 50% chance of winning a brand new set of wheels, Fred, a retired pharmacist from Durban North, calmly but anxiously slid into the driver's seat. Another sigh of disappointment sounded from the crowds as he, too, learnt that he had not won the car. Finally, Elizabeth, who was flown in all the way from Port Elizabeth, very precariously and with much uncertainty, sat in what could be her new car if her key would start the engine. With shaky hands she put the key in its place the lights burst into action and the car's engine purred to a roaring start, much to the delight of the crowds around the car!

With tears flowing, her face buried in her hands and overwhelmed with happiness, Elizabeth couldn't believe she was the owner of the brand new Kio Rio. "I won, I won! I can't believe it; I won! Is this really happening?!" When asked about how she had entered, Elizabeth told us that over Valentine's weekend, she had joined her family on a very special cruise where her son proposed to his girlfriend. On their return, while waiting for their flight at King Shaka International Airport, they decided to have a bite to eat at Mugg & Bean, after which she grabbed some sweets from Sweet Treats, and bought a gift for her mom from Exclusive Books. She even pleaded with a friend to kiss her entry form for extra luck and slipped it into the entry box. Little did she know that such a special trip would lead to such a big win!

"I'd like to thank King Shaka International Airport, Airports Company South Africa and KIA for this incredible prize. I've never won anything, and I cannot believe I have now won something so amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Well done, too, to the other contestants. I wish there were three cars - one for each of us!"

With a stunning array of technology, the KIA Rio will ensure that Elizabeth will get to where she's going, comfortably and safely, while looking good it's the perfect combination of comfort, economy and functionality!

Cheryl Winterbachof KIA Motors South Africa was delighted to be at the live draw: "It is amazing to have been involved with King Shaka International Airport and Airports Company South Africa staff and employees on such a wonderful campaign. These awards include a Red Dot Design Award, Bronze IDEA Award, 10 Best Engine award, Best of Best award, Best Independent Newspapers Best small/budget car category. The vehicle has a Five Star Euro NCAP rating, the highest achievable safety category. Overall, in the JD Quality Powers Nameplate Quality Awards 2015, KIA came in 2nd overall, and this was 2nd to Porsche!! JD Powers Nameplates is an International survey on vehicle quality. Likewise we came 2nd to Skoda (which is not sold here in South Africa in the JD Powers Dependability Awards). This actually means that KIA is top of the log ondependability in vehicles sold here in South Africa. A very sound achievement! The Rio is one of KIA's top sellers, and for good reason - it fits beautifully into the mid-vehicle range as a fleet vehicle, family vehicle as well as for the sporty young executive."

Fitted with LED side, front and rear lamps, climate control, Bluetooth, rear sensors, rain-sensing wipers, 6 airbags, 17-inch rims, and 5.4 fuel consumption, it's no wonder this vehicle is a big hit!

Colin Naidoo, Senior Corporate Affairs Manager, was pleased and proud to have been a part of the event: "At King Shaka International, we want to make our airport more accessible to the general and travelling public. This competition is testament to that and we are very happy that Elizabeth was the winner by just visiting and shopping at the airport. We also want to take this opportunity to thank KIA for their generous partnership and also to our retail team together with our retailers to make this a successful event. We are encouraging the public to visit King Shaka International anytime and on Super Saturdays you can pay only R10 parking for a whole day by just purchasing for R100 or more!"

About Airports Company South Africa

South Africa's airports were owned and operated by the state until 23 July 1993, when ACSA was officially established and nine airports were transferred to the company. ACSA's sole shareholder from then until partial privatisation was the state, through the Department of Transport.

After almost 23 years in the industry, ACSA is now a mature organisation. We have emerged from a phase of radical, sustained transformation and reconstruction to become an efficient, expanding commercial company with a skilled and motivated management team and staff.

An important development has been the introduction of a Governance Framework and Operating Model. This system will enable us for the next decade to remain relevant. We will take our stakeholders with us on this journey of the ACSA objectives, decisions and actions, which are to be the most sought-after partner in the world for the provision of sustainable airport management solutions. We will continue to assess this objective in relation to three major determinants of business success, namely to run airports, to develop airports, and to grow our footprint. This approach enables ACSA to plan for a future filled with technological, global, economic and regulatory challenges. It enables us to utilize our assets - including brand, expertise and intellectual capital - to its full potential.

Our success as a commercial, world-class, globally competitive company is a model for a successful state-owned company. ACSA is a prime example of how an innovative, commercially-driven enterprise undertaking can emerge into a jewel of the parastatals. This can only be achieved through embracing forward thinking!
