Through my eyes

I do not know how they will affect my daily life here in the tiny coastal village of Ballito. I am not saying that Trump or Hilary will have no impact on our livelihood, what I am saying is that their influence is still undetermined.

And while Donald Trump's, wife Ivanka's coffee invitations and his son Eric's calls to volunteer in the next campaign, lie rotting in my junk mail folder, I have to say, my heart goes out to Hilary. Her recent public collapse from pneumonia could cost her the presidential campaign.

As a business owner, I know all too well what it means to never take time off, even when I am inches from death. It's just what we dofor many of us working while we're sick is a sign of strength, "Oh come onI'm not sick, its just a little cough."

Hilary collapsing and cancelling her campaign in California is a sign of weakness and her opposition is having a field day, especially when we think of her last presidential crusade. When she started crying describing how hard life was for women. I think deep down inside she thought she would get some sympathy from the fairer sex but it was not to be, both sexes booed her and she was labelled as weak.

Life is so hard for so many, whether you are a working mom with children and a busy household, a single parent with rebellious teenagers or an ambitious executive burning the midnight oil to prove your worth at the firm. We are all consumed with work and triumphs.

We are all driven to do more, strive for excellence and produce outstanding results for everyone to admire and comment on. The race to the finish line is being stretched at every start of the race, and lets face it, we are all chasing unrealistic goals.

A few years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with an incurable disease. He was given six months to live. One Sunday afternoon after a quite lunch he told me about his regrets.

He knew the causes of his disease; he said that the stress of running a very successful building company caused his failed health. He knew it was too late for regrets, but he also wanted me to know that nothingabsolutely nothing was more important than good health.

The truth is he never got the chance to enjoy his riches. His late nights, his bad habits and his hunger for more eventually killed him and he died with his regrets. In the end he wished he had another chance to slow life down, enjoy it more and be less driven.

Maybe its all for the better for Hilary, her pneumonia could be the very thing that saves her. Because of her recent collapse she could spend her twilight years in some log cabin on a lake somewhere, enjoying her grand children, instead of planning another military assault on some innocent oil rich country.

They say everything happens for a reason.

Sometimes that reason is unclear but eventually we understand.

The spring has finally sprung; so don't forget to smell the flowers.

And slow the heck down!
