Through my eyes

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,

Your thoughts become your words,

Your words become your actions,

Your actions become your habits,

Your habits become your values,

Your values become your destiny."

- Aristotle

“Life can be such a ball ache!” lamented my friend. Times have been very hard for him and he has come down to the coast to find some reflection and see if he can balance the unbalanced and steer his sails towards the sun.

Many things culminated in my friend’s life for him to find himself in this position, the economy did not help but in hindsight he also made many mistakes along the way.

His biggest mistake was to upset many people; family, friends and his business colleagues. My friend was pulled into a downward spiral and just did not know how to get out of his horrible predicament. It was one unfortunate misjudgement that led my friend on the path to destruction, self-hate and eventually suicidal thoughts.

We all have things that we care passionately about, sometimes to an unreasonable and unhealthy extent. While our individual situations and circumstances are vastly different, feelings are what connect us and they are universal. The feelings of a devastating loss are somewhat the same for everyone.

When those things that you care about most dearly are taken from you, for reasons beyond your control, your life disintegrates and if you are like my friend, who destroyed and annihilated his support system, you will find yourself alone, isolated and hollow.

“When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.” Said Franklin D. Roosevelt. When you are so depressed and have reached rock bottom, with no hope like my friend was, the last thing you want is to be overly positive. It is time to rebuild what you have torn down but first you have to face your demons.

I’m really blessed to have my mom, even though she is very harsh with me, always has been. I credit her with my strength and my sense of being. When I get on my warpath she always asks me what outcome am I anticipating from my revolt. It’s a great question that has saved my bacon many a time.

One thing I discovered long ago, that has kept me away from the psychiatrist’s chair, is that my self-worth is infinite, and it’s not dependent upon external circumstances, such as making it or not making it in this crazy world, nor does it depend on what others think of me.

There’s one thing I need you to believe, and that is that we all have a purpose for being here and a reason to live. There is always a solution and a way out, even when you think all possible options and solutions have been exhausted, there is another way.

Believe that no matter how badly you feel right now, you will get through your predicament and end up using it to your advantage. You will find the silver lining, it is there, and you will do incredible things with your life.
