Through my eyes

This morning I woke up at one and just could not get back to sleep. My dreams were keeping me up and on one hand it is a good thing. An early night the night before might have had something to do with my early rise, or does it

So here I am in the middle of my dream where my family is getting ready for a wedding, not my wedding, someone else's wedding. There is an intense chaos and I'm waking kids up and wiping the sleep from my eyes.

I am not in my house and the kids are not my kids. I'm young; sweet and innocent, wondering around in my PJ's enjoying the commotion, the excitement of a wedding day. And the next moment I hear my brother scream from his bedroom, telling me to make beetroot soup, (barszcz).

In my dream I stormed into my mom's bedroom and found her still in bed covered by her pillows, she looked at me with slight dissatisfaction, and squinted one eye at me.

I complained to her about my brother's unreasonable request, freaked out at the prospect of making beetroot soup when I am supposed to be dressing for the wedding. The dream frustrated me so much I could not go back to sleep.

So here I am, wide awake at one am in the morning thinking that this is seriously not on. So I decided to do some work - as one does at such an ungodly hour.

When the sun finally climbed into the sky, my mom sent me a photo of my granny who passed away almost three years ago Granny would have celebrated her 100th birthday today and suddenly everything fell into place.

The last few years of my granny's life were spent in a beautiful monastery in Poland. She was in a vegetative state and we had little contact with her. On my last visit she was a mere shadow of her beautiful self.

On that occasion I brought her some red flowers that I had plucked out of the pot plant in my aunts home and placed them in her hair. I gave her a soft oil massage and climbed into her bed. I held her for a long time and assured her that everything would be all right.

And after a long cuddle she came out of her world and asked me about my mom, "How is Marysia " she asked in Polish. I was completely freaked out. It has been years since she communicated with anyone.

The next sentence was a shock, when she said, "You know I am getting married and my father is going to give me away." My husband and I looked at each other and held her a little closerin her lucid state her eyes shone so bright, there was a life in there that we have not seen for so long and then there was silence.

We giggled about it later and wondered what it was about but we never found out, she died the following year.

My granny loved barszcz (beetroot soup).

Sometimes things happen that we cannot explain or comprehend. They just happen and we are left with a big question mark. Synchronicity is mysterious.

No one needs to interpret my dream for meI know what I know and I feel so blessed.

So here is a salute to our ancestorslets celebrate them and let us not forget how they shaped us and continue to have such big impact on our lives.

Wishing you a blessed week.
