Through my eyes

"Truth creates controversy, because it shocks people, it shatters theirillusions. And they want to cling to their illusions; those illusionsare very consoling, comfortable, convenient and cozy. They don't want to leave their dreams, they are not ready to drop their investments in all kinds of foolish projects — and that's what truth requires of them. They feel angry, they want to take revenge."

"This is going to anger many, this is going to create much controversy, because I am a very non compromising person. I will say only that whichis true to me, whatsoever the consequence. If I am condemned for it ormurdered for it, that's perfectly okay. But I am not going tocompromise, not an iota."

"I have nothing to lose, so why compromise I have nothing to gain, so why compromise All that could have happened has happened. Nothing canbe taken away from me, because my treasure is of the inner. And nothingcan be added to it, because my treasure is of the inner."

"So I am going to live the way I want to live. I am going to live inmy own spontaneity and authenticity. I am not here to fulfil anybody'sexpectations. I am not interested in being called a spiritual person or a saint either. I don't need any compliments from anybody, I don't wantthe crowd to worship me. All those stupid games are finished."

-Osho

It happened on a windy Sunday afternoon, the birds were chirping and the sun was setting and I was in my happy place; on my daybed covered by my silk sari blanket with a TV remote in my hand.

The world was my oyster. With Netflix on my mind, I chose a documentary called 'Wild, Wild Country". It's based on the life of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh who was a controversial spiritual figure from India, later known as Osho.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh was known for his liberal views on sex and there were rumours of orgies in his communes.Osho started the cult of Rajneeshism and later fell from grace as a 'psycho' in his Rajneeshpuram commune in Oregon in the 1980s.

I only watched two episodes, as I could no longer listen to those being interviewed by his then secretary, Ma Anand Sheela. It was just too disturbing and contrived.

The 60's and 70's were crazy times in the world. So much that took place in the name of God, Spirituality and freedom was the biggest load of manure, and yet gurus like Osho amounted such immense wealth that, his fleet of 96 RollsRoyces were not enough, he was planning on buying further 24 so he could be the man who owned the most RollsRoyce in the world.

In my life I have encountered a few cult figures and most of them scared me. There truly is nothing attractive about a person, a living being, who thinks he is a God. I always wonder why so many people fall for this trap and why so few see the warning signs.

Maybe we should all watch "Wild Wild Country" The fact that the original ashram is still operating in India, likely explains why and how Oregon was able to close that door so effectively. Rajneeshpuram may be gone, but Osho lives on.
