What's the issue?

Our state is still captured and our president can do nothing about it." The woes of a fellow citizen dissected another perfect warm winters evening. Chatter turned to what a wonderful country this would be if it weren't for corruption. Every braai stand in the country has heard one version or another of this conversation. This is a universal problem, we are not alone down here with this problem, we're just much better at pretending that it isn't happening. You see we had so much practice during the apartheid era, our national bird should be changed to the Ostrich.

We're getting a new police commissioner here in KZN, who knows, maybe the tide really is turning. Maybe we will pull our heads out the sand. Complaints against our public protector were drowning out the poor sound quality of a set of speakers that were clearly not capable of handling that much base. "She's going all out to destroy Cyril!" This must be read in a squeaky high-pitched nasal twang of a Northern Suburbs Kugel, to get the maximum effect, "She's going after Pravin. It's like a war!" Out of the shadows one of our smoky comrades added his flavour of perspective on life saying, "Steal the money, don't steal the money, either way this is still the best place on earth to live." In any case, when a high court judge calls your report "nonsensical", that should terminate your career in office, same day. Or maybe the day after that, in any event it spells disaster for most high level legal professions, maybe the Public Protector's office is different.

Our new NPA Boss Shamila Batohi is slowly getting the wheels turning, she was quoted as saying "People don't want to hear me talk, they want to see action. Part of the strategy is not to talk too much but speak when we have something to say." Well I'm hoping that her actions will speak for her office and soon they will be pulling our some XXL orange overalls from the stores.

And out comes Boris the boff guns blazing and championing a Brexit or bust attitude. Besides the fact that the whole world knows that Cambridge Analytica worked on the Brexit campaign, Boris is going for it deal or no deal. This is the only way the back benchers and the stragglers are going to let go of their idiosyncrasies. Fears that the UK and EU are not ready for a no deal Brexit while secret talks abound and deals are going down regardless. The pound responded with mole like antics to Boris' no deal bravado. Someone should tell Boris not to worry because Trump is destroying the US trade with China, so he will be only too happy to make a deal with the UK. Don't worry Boris, Trump's got this. Tears are flowing down my cheeks just thinking of how this looks.

So while our ruling party tears itself to pieces, the Ukraine arrested a Russian tanker sparking outrage with terms like 'piracy' and 'ramifications'. It doesn't sound good.
